The First China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference was convened in Kunming, Yunnan of China from the 7th to 9th of July 2004. The theme of the conference was “maintaining regional stability, combating transnational crimes”. H.E. Mr. Hu Jintao, the former President of P.R China sent a congratulatory message to the conference. H.E. Mr. Luo Gan, the former member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. About 200 delegates, which includes prosecutors general and attorneys general from the ASEAN member States and China attended the conference. During the meeting, a joint declaration was signed by the attorneys general and prosecutors general, to express their stern determination on combating transnational and trans-regional crimes, call on judicial and procuratorial organs working closely to combat terrorism and terrorism financing, trafficking in drugs, transnational smuggling, corruption, money-laundering, high-tech crimes and other transnational organized crimes.
