The opening ceremony of the 10th China-ASEAN Prosecutors General Conference was held in the morning of November 9 in Vientiane, capital of Lao PRD. Prof. Cao Jianming, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of P.R China addressed the opening ceremony.

In his presentation, Prof. Cao firstly extended his appreciation and gratitude to Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and the Laotian government for the supportiveness to the conference, andexpressed sincere thanks to Mr. Khamsane Souvong, Supreme People’s Prosucutor of Lao PRDPfor the excellent arrangement and hospitality.

Prof. Cao pointed out that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations.Over the past 25 years, China and ASEAN have held high the banner of development and cooperation, and insisted on mutual respect, understanding, trust and support, bilateral relations moved forward, which contributed to the regional stability and prosperity.

With increasingly closer cooperation between China and ASEAN member states, this year also witnesses the 12th session of China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference. Since its first session in Kunming, China in 2004, we have effectively conducted high-level exchange visits, professional training, information sharing, investigation assistance and combated transnational organized crimeunder the principle of equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Thanks to our joint efforts,we now harvested cooperation achievements one by one. The conference mechanism has played an important role in maintaining social stability and promoting economic development of the region and also contributed to consolidating and promoting the traditional friendly relations between China and ASEAN countries.

Under the theme of "strengthening international cooperation, effectively combating transnational crime", participants focused on "drug trafficking" and "human trafficking", the conference showed the common concern of the prosecution organs of all countries to strengthen cooperation in punishing drug trafficking and human trafficking.

Prof. Cao hoped that all of the participants can join hands, seize the opportunity and further strengthen judicial cooperation to combat and effectively prevent transnational drugs and human trafficking, so as to guarantee the region's infrastructure construction, resource development, industry and financial cooperation, and contribute to addressing the social root causes of occurrences of crime, and improving the well-being of people in this region.

About 100 delegates from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao SAR and ASEAN member states attended the conference.
