On November 6th, 2019, the 12th ASEAN-China Prosecutors-General Conference was inaugurated in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Zhang Jun, the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of P.R.C attended and addressed the conference. Zhang underlined that Chinese prosecutorial organs will put together in times of trouble and work together with ASEAN countries’ counterparts to advance jointly the friendly cooperation to a new level. 
    Zhang Jun said “Nothing can separate people with common goals and ideals, not even mountains and seas”. The traditional friendship between China and ASEAN countries went back to ancient times, with the implementation of BRI initiative, China-ASEAN relationship step into a new period with mutual political trust continue to strengthen, economic and trade ties further deepen, cooperation of various fields carry forward comprehensively, people’s welfare has been developed and enhanced. At present, both sides are working together for a more peaceful, stable and prosperious future. Chinese prosecutorial organs will implement the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness proposed by president Xi and make a great contribution to build a closer and properious China-ASEAN community of common destiny.
Zhang pointed out that the conference’s topic “The Role of Prosecutors in Regionally Combating Human Trafficking” shows the participants’ profound understanding of cross-border human trafficking crimes’ damage to the society, and resolute determination to strengthen international cooperation and safeguard regional peace. The parties should bring China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference mechanism into full play to solve problems, undertake the social responsibility and fulfil international commitments to strike cross-border human trafficking. 
    Zhang proposed three suggestions in the following key-note speech session under the topic of striking cross-border trafficking of women and children: Firstly, conducting joint special action to strike cross-border trafficking of women and children effectively, so as to form deterrence effect to criminals and maintain border area’s stability and people’s safety. Secondly, improving judicial assistance mechanism, specifying content in the aspects of cross-border investigation and evidence collection, arresting and repatriation of suspects, handing over illicit money and goods involved, evidence transformation, service of judicial document, information flow and sharing, typically working together to edit and publish the reference cases of striking trafficking of women and children trafficking as the guideline and reference for prosecutors to handle cases, and improving results of cooperation. Thirdly, holding joint training courses and seminars to enhance border area prosecutors’ exchange through training courses and seminars, studying and solving judicial practical problems and improving the professionalism prosecutors of both China and ASEAN countries. 
    The Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen met the heads of the delegations and addressed opening ceremony. Hun sen highly appreciated and expected China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Confenrence mechanism can play a more important role in building a more convinient and effective information exchange and experience sharing platform, striking cross-border crimes especially human trafficking, guaranteeing regional peace, safety and stabilityand bringing better life to the people of China and ASEAN coutries.
